Rescue Me ID: 15-08-15-00498Sophie (female)
We believe sweet Sophie Jane is a three and a half year old Bulldog/Boston Mix. She is crate trained and housebroken, and walks well on a leash. She has been spayed and she is up to date on all her shots. We invested in behavior training, and she can sit, lie down, climb on her bed and stay, go to her crate, and wait politely for her food before she eats. She is good around older children, and loves to play with a ball in the yard. She doesn't beg at the table, and doesn't try to get up on the furniture. She snoozes in the sunshine, and has a terrific snore. Like lots of Bostons, she can't hold her licker, and will love you enthusiastically. She's a great watch dog too - she'll bark when something is amiss in the yard or someone is approaching the house. She has been a wonderful companion dog to us. Sophie attacked our neighbor's dog earlier this week. Thankfully the neighbor's dog is okay. Sophie is a love around people, but is terrible around other animals. She does not get along with cats at all, and is very aggressive with other dogs. We were able to control this behavior in our previous home by limiting contact - we had a large yard with a privacy fence, and didn't take her to places where other dogs were present (dogparks, Petsmart, etc). We've recently moved to a neighborhood that doesn't allow privacy fences, and installed an invisible fence. Unfortunately, Sophie has broken the new invisible fence boundary a number of times, even when we are supervising in the yard. We've talked to her trainer, and believe that while we may see some improvement with additional training, we will not be able to trust her around other animals when she is adrenaline fueled - the invisible fence isn't going to keep her or other animals safe. We've come to the painful decision that Sophie would be better suited in a home with a physical fence and no other animals. Sophie will have her ball, crate, and remaining preventative meds with her as she moves to her new family. We are looking for a home for her that has NO OTHER PETS. Sophie needs a fenced yard. Experienced, adult dog owners are a plus - she will need help with her reactivity. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-12-00221 (female)
Spunky is 8-9 years and weighs about 15 pounds. She has lived her life with a family who adores her. Unfortunately, Spunky is creating stress in the home by fighting the other dog. They would like to find her a home where she will be the only dog.

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-03-00355Jimmy John (male)
Jimmy John is a pure joy. He has yet to meet any person he does not like. He gets along well with all other animals, including the pet duck at his foster house. He loves his treats and learns new things very quickly. Despite having cataracts, Jimmy John is a great walker and readily explores the outdoors. He is a little more hesitant indoors on hard floors, but once he gets the lay of the house he has no issues getting around. Jimmy John wants nothing more than a daily walk and a lap to sit on, along with a human that lets him sleep under the covers. He would prefer someone home more often than not as he used to live with an older woman and spent a lot of time snuggling. He is potty trained, but gets confused in new places, so someone that is patient about helping him find the door and who will set a regular potty schedule will help him adapt more quickly. This boy never needs a voice raised to him and wants so hard to please. It took him a few weeks to stop grieving over the loss of his lady (he had lived with her until she entered a nursing home), but he has now adapted well and is waiting for a home of his own. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-08-00340Ebony (female)
Ebony was found as a stray and taken to a rural high-kill shelter in SC. She is about 1 year old and weighs 35 lbs. This girl is just adorable, happy, and loves attention. She loves people and is good other with dogs. Ebony would do best with another high energy dog to be her playmate or someone active who will commit to giving her daily vigorous exercise. She would appreciate the finer things in life-a soft bed, air conditioning, toys of her own, and someone to love. But who could blame her after being stuck in an outdoors shelter for months. We do not know how much training she has received. So she might need training in house manners, leash walking, and basic obedience. Since she was not kept on monthly preventatives, she has tested positive for heartworms. She will receive treatment and will soon be good as new. Ebony will be a great companion for some lucky person or family. Can you provide Ebony with a caring home? If you do, she will reward you with memorable moments and years of love. If you are interested in adopting Ebony, please go to http://adopt.ddbnova.org. Complete the dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail it to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-25-00219Lenny (male)
Lenny is an adult Boston Terrier. We estimate his age at about 8. He may be younger but we doubt he's older. Lenny is a playful darling. He's amazing with any person no matter their age. He's well trained in many fun ways. He's house trained which is always good. He sit's, stay's, understands No. He sits pretty and shakes paws. Lenny plays catch, and fetch. He is a clown. He's always ready to play but is not hyper. He knows how to settle and loves a good cuddle. Lenny is good with cats that don't run or act like prey. Even then he won't hurt them but they might hurt him. Lenny is crate trained. He's not destructive unless you give him a toy then he's pretty hard on stuffed animals and chews. He loves balls best of all. Lenny is good with other dogs but is an alpha. He's great with dogs in dog parks or on walks, but he will be happiest being the only dog in his house. There are more photos of Lenny on our website and our facebook page. www.odbtr.org (Less)

Boston Terrier Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. Boston Terriers, or Boston Bulls, are small, intelligent dogs. Boston Terriers are gentle and sensitive but can be very playful and rambunctious. Boston Terriers are easy to train since they like to learn and want to please their masters; however, they can be difficult to housebreak. Boston Terriers are exceptionally good with children and the elderly. Boston Terriers do not bark without good reason. Boston Terriers can live in an apartment or in the country, but they are sensitive to extremely hot or cold weather.
