Rescue Me ID: 15-11-19-00368Ozzie (male)

Boston Terrier    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ozzie will be 2 in January and he's a darling boy who only wants love. Ozzie has a strong personality and he needs confident alpha leadership. Ozzie needs people that will correct him positively. If he's an only dog you'd probably never have to really correct him. Well unless you leave towels or potholders where he can get them. He adores them. Only once did he chew on one we had a talk about that and he's not done it again. Yes we had a talk about it. Ozzie is extremely intelligent, he's also a bit nervous about a few things. Someone somewhere scared him with a vacuum cleaner and he panics when he sees one going. It's simple to avoid this. ... (Read More)Kennel him, put him outside or in another room and it's not an issue. He's afraid of garbage bags but we've been working on desensitizing him to this. He's done extremely well and has learned that they won't hurt him. Ozzie is VERY vocal. He talks about all sorts of things. He can actually say Momma and now. He's a little shadow when I'm home but has no separation anxiety. He's loving and just loves to lean on people or sit in their lap. Ozzie is good with anyone but he's sort of like an ADD child. You have to correct him positively. Rather than saying NO or bad we say 'you be good' or 'that's not good' asking him if he wants to go to time out also works wonders. Ozzie is treat, he's loving but not overly kissy. He loves to snuggle and play but can occupy himself. Ozzie loves other dogs but not all dogs like him. I'm not sure why but we have this issue with a lot of our foster Boston's. Ozzie is good with dog friendly cats. He will chase them but if they don't run he just cocks his head and looks at them like 'What? Your supposed to run' Ozzie will be happiest as an only dog with people who love to go to dog parks or have play dates with other dogs. Ozzie is on the lower end of normal activity levels for most Boston's. He's actually pretty mellow almost all the time. He is a bit high strung about some things and will be happiest in a home where the humans are confident strong leaders who won't let Oz train them. He is exceptionally intelligent. The only time he's not mellow is play time or on walks. He likes to walk on his hind legs like a person. It's pretty funny but we're working on him walking normally because he will pull a bit. Ozzie wants to please and while he's not really food motivated he is praise motivated. He knows and follows all basic commands and if you just talk to him like you would a human toddler he listens. He is still quite puppish so you have to watch him or he'll snag your potholders and slobber all over them. He's fascinated by textures and almost worships them. Ozzie is an extra special boy who deserves people that understand him and want a lively, smart obedient companion. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-11-19-00357Tommy (male)

Boston Terrier Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tommy is a 2 year old Frenchton (Boston Terrier French Bulldog cross) He's mostly Boston in his looks except his ears are rounder like a Frenchie. He's a big boy at 29 pounds and it's all muscle like Frenchie. Tommy is sweet and so very well behaved. He's been through obedience school and it shows. Tommy came to us after he supposedly nipped a neighbors child. He's never shown any sign of being a biter while with me. He is slow to warm up to new people and is afraid that people are going to hit him. He's learned here that we don't hit. Tommy is wonderful with most dogs but not cats. He's chased ours and while he's never harmed one they stay ... (Read More)away from him on the other side of a baby gate. I've had him around children and he's non-reactive but will avoid them. It doesn't take much to win Tommy's trust just time. For me it took 30 minutes and a couple of treats. He's very food motivated. He just needs a home that will let him settle before they try to handle him much. Once he trust you it's possible to do anything with him, nail trims, ear cleaning and baths. He's submissive once he trust. He loves snuggles and requires at least one kissy fit each day. He adores the people he trust. He's eager to please and I believe you could teach him to do anything physically possible. He's healthy, up to date on shots, heart worm negative and on prevention. He's neutered and micro chipped. Tommy just needs a chance, people willing to go slow and let him come to them. If you are a quiet person or family without a lot of different people coming and going often Tommy would be a dream dog. He's wonderful on walks and rides well in cars. If you've felt a tug for our Tommy please email me for an application Part of Tommy's adoption fee has been sponsored, which means his fee is half what it normally would be. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-11-06-00089Peach (female)

Boston Terrier Mix    Age: Adult

Peach here, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. My foster mommy calls me Peach Pie and I have over heard her say on several occasions that I'm a super sweet gal. I can tell you that I do my business outside, I don't mind my crate at all, I like other dogs and I'm good with kitty cats. I'm the type of dog that's ok with letting another pup run the show. I'm too laid back to be getting upset with anyone over food or a toy. I like to keep the peace . I'm told that I am a Boston Terrier mix, weigh about 35lbs, and I am around 9 years old. Please don't let my gray face and age fool you, I have a ton of love to still give. And ... (Read More)I once had my own guardian who loved me very much but God decided to call them home early. See that's how I ended up in the shelter in WV. But then Animal Friends-VA came a long to rescue me. And I'm now looking for a new forever home and guardian that will love me through my golden years. Love, Peach~~~She'll be at the Pet Nutrition Center located at 12468 Old Bridge Road (Dillingham Square) Woodbridge VA 22192 on Sundays from 12:30 - 3:30. Come on out and meet this sweet dog. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-03-00355Jimmy John (male)

Boston Terrier    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jimmy John is a pure joy. He has yet to meet any person he does not like. He gets along well with all other animals, including the pet duck at his foster house. He loves his treats and learns new things very quickly. Despite having cataracts, Jimmy John is a great walker and readily explores the outdoors. He is a little more hesitant indoors on hard floors, but once he gets the lay of the house he has no issues getting around. Jimmy John wants nothing more than a daily walk and a lap to sit on, along with a human that lets him sleep under the covers. He would prefer someone home more often than not as he used to live with an older ... (Read More)woman and spent a lot of time snuggling. He is potty trained, but gets confused in new places, so someone that is patient about helping him find the door and who will set a regular potty schedule will help him adapt more quickly. This boy never needs a voice raised to him and wants so hard to please. It took him a few weeks to stop grieving over the loss of his lady (he had lived with her until she entered a nursing home), but he has now adapted well and is waiting for a home of his own. (Less)

Boston Terriers are bred down in size from pit bulls and other fighting dogs, but modern varieties are not very aggressive. Brachycephalic comes from Greek roots meaning short head. Boston Terriers were first bred by Robert C. Hooper of Boston.
